Do they make a hybrid motorcycle?

Question: Do they make a hybrid motorcycle?

(Posted by: Ted Zigthorpe on 2010-03-09 10:12:37)

I know many ride for fun. I have met people whom have told me they get up to 45 mpg. On their motorcycles and use them for much of the travel they do. the goal of energy independance is appealing to me. I also would like to know if bikers have made a shift in using other textiles than leather for protection. It seems that could be used as another great way in protecting our environment.

No such thing. The additional weight of the battery pack, generator, and electric motor would make a motorcycle too heavy and bulky to be practical. Also, the additioal cost to purchace a bike like this would far exceed the cost of fuel that it could save. You would never break even.

Hybrid motorcycles have been around for as long as there has been motorcycles, they are called mopeds, when they run out of fuel, you peddle em. Textile motorcycle clothing is not environmentally friendly, it usually contains lots of man made elements for abraision resistance and impact protection, which are normally oil based. Also the manufacturing process is very energy intensive. Leather is a by product of the food industry so no manufacturing the raw material, the tanning process uses natural products like urine, so only the manufacture of the items and the dying process could be seen as a green issue. And if I'm going to crash, I'd rather be in leather than textile.

They sure do. Hopefully they will catch on eventually. Not all of us bikers are meat eating morons who only discuss beer and babes. Its only a matter of time before all states enforce emissions and noise level controls. This is making it so even giants like Harley will go water cooled for better emissions. Some argue its only a matter of time as performance and handling will improve. Some argue that its a bad thing. They really should see it as being better. Its just like the great helmet debate. Most of the time when someone decides to argue against wearing a helmet, they have no real fact in why they don't need one. Its just some good ole boy usually that feels the need to wave the constitution he has no understanding of in the air. Never mind the fact helmets have saved millions of lives. That sways perfectly into the second part of your question. Its common knowledge now a days that we can build it bigger better and stronger. At the same time keep a check on our environment and its inhabitants. If we can build vests that stop Teflon bullets its easy to build something that prevents road rash. I can testify that my riding gear breathes better is lighter and more comfortable than any dead animal you want to drape over yourself. Its the getting to be the stereotypical biker that wants to look like James Dean and argue its better. He has once again no fact he just wants to look cool. Meanwhile millions get sacrificed in the name of fashion. The other butt kicker is that redneck who is waving his constitution is frothing at the mouth over sending jobs over seas. little does the moron realize that less than 5 percent of his leathers come this country. Its from over seas where the treatment of animals is worse. It will always be the uneducated biker that is making them all look bad. Be it the helmetless bullet biker. or the leather meat eating heart attack waiting to happen on a Harley.

Most bikes in India give an excess of 150MPG mileage. They really make fuel-efficient bikes which run on 91octane petrol and not o hybrid power. Though these bikes are less powerful, but that does not stop them from reaching the 100mile/ hr mark. This is a result of most dependency on 2-wheelers.
