Question: What are the best tires for motorcycles?
(Posted by: Roy b on 2010-02-07 11:35:55)
I have a GSXR 750 and the tires are getting pretty worn. I was wondering in opinion or in fact, who carries the best tires for a sport bike/ crotch rocket? Michellin? Firestone? Anything? These tires are the only thing touvhing the ground when im riding, so i want the best i can get. |

It really depends on your style of riding.. There are different tread compound's for various style's of riding n as well as track only tire's which are really sticky. Ive been real pleased with the Michelin Pilot Road 2ct which is good for the twisty's but yet durable enough for every day use.. |

All of the major brands are good.Dunlop,Metzeler,Michellin and Avon all make very good tires. It depends on your riding needs. The sticker the tire the softer the compound.Touring tires have harder compounds to wear longer. Then even have tires with a harder compound center strip and softer stickier sidewalls.JP cycles has a good tire selection that you can look at to help you decide. It's smart of you to want the best as opposed to the cheapest.Like you say those two little contact patches are all there is between you and the road. |

I just stick with the brand of tires that my bike came with, since I don't have any complaints with them. I know they work. |

I have been buying Continental Road Attacks for my street bikes. They wear a long time and they have enough grip to grind the foot pegs on my Cyclone. That's enough grip for me, and they tend to last 10,000 miles or more which is 3 times longer than the sport rubber that most people don't need for street riding. If you are really aggressive or do track days, then Sport Attacks are the better tire, but most people realistically have no use for the extra grip. I currently have a set of Dunlop Qualifiers on my GSXR. I thought they would be worth a try, but I'm not impressed and I'm going back to Contis after they get used up. |

You have just invoked the "dreaded tyre thread " a question that will get you booted from almost every motorcycle board on the internet. You'll have to do your research based on your style of riding and budget. The only thig I can offer is that "you get what you pay for " applies. Also even the finest tires are worthless if not mounted and balanced properly. |

I have tried countless tires over the years and have been happiest with the Michelin Pilot Series. Currently the best is the Power 2CT, get that and you will never regret the choice. Dunlope has a new 2 compound Qualifier tire that a few guys I know are currently running and they are telling me it's right on par with the Powers but I have yet to try them and most likely will not try them because the Powers have been so good. |
