Question: Hi. my moped wont work please help!?

(Posted by: Ash Price on 2010-03-05 13:42:43)

Hi. My moped was all fine 4 weeks ago, it use to be really fast accelleration and hit 62mph but then all of a sudden it started jerking back and forth like it was struggling to go past 35mph. its derestricted obviously. now it doesnt go over 35mph and as soon as i try to push it faster it jerks back and forth but wont go over 35mph. After a week of that happening, i put it in my garage and locked it up, the next day for school i tried to start it and nothing. wouldn't even turn on. i kick started it for an hour and nothing. I charged the battery and still nothing. i tried it every day for over an hour and nothing happened. 3weeks later (which was 2days ago) i went in there with my fingers crossed randomly and it started for 3 seconds and then it cut out. I was really happy that it started. I then started it again and again it worked for 3 seconds and cut out. I then tried it again and nothing. I tried it all night nd it was dead. Recharged battery, still nothing. Back to stage 1. HELP!

Air fuel fire = combustion check each of the three air: vacuum line craked or blocked? all hoses connected and intact? fuel: is there gas? is it good? is it reaching the carb/ injector? take the spark plug out, crank it over once, and smell the cylinder. fire: it's cranking. take out a spark plug still attached to the wire. hold the plug near the case and crank it. is a spark arching? what do your spark plugs look like? white is lean- gas/ air starved, black is rich when you kick is there resistence/ compression or does it turn over and spin too easy? Good luck.

Sounds like a bad tank of fuel

If your moped has a fuel filter on it, try changing that. If it doesn't, it sounds like the fuel line is either kinked or clogged somewhere, or possibly the float in the carburetor has gone bad.

I agree with all of the above answers. also replace your sparkplug according to specs.
