Question: My moped/scooter is acting funny when it hits around 45 to 50 mph?

My moped/ scooter has just recently started to get kinda shake when i begin to hit around 45 to 50 mph. to clarify by what i mean by "shake " is while I'm on the road and get near 50 mph its as if my moped/ scooter grows a mind of its own and starts to hit the brakes and makes me slow down until i go to about 40 mph. i don't thing its the braking system because it would have started to stop me sooner, it's still drive able with out any major danger i just want to be able to go to 50 with out my moped/ scooter going demon- ped on me and stop me in the middle of traffic. have any thoughts what i should do?

Sounds like your variator rollers need replacing. They are randomly altering your gear ratio, which is why it feels like the brakes are coming on. That causes the shaking, too. They should be routinely replaced every 3-5000 miles.

Could be down to tyre pressures or are your tyres shot ?

There is a few solutions to this: * Variator rollings * Brakes getting warm, expanding * Maybe it's not the brakes, it might be the pistons being twisted in some weird fashion or just extremely worn out. * I dont know what it's called on english, but these things are in your tire to stabilize. They might be damaged. servicesenter.no/ images/ kulelager.gif

1. Check the wheel alignment 2. Check tyres 3. Check variator rollers (replace anyway) 4. Check the wheel bearings Another idea, is that it could be the ignition. If you're moped has been de-restricted but the CDi unit hasn't been, then this may prevent it going faster than 50mph. If none of these help, then it could just be the uncomfortable top speed of your scooter. --Mikey B--

Have a shop inspect your scooter's entire front end. Something is loose or broken. If possible, have it hauled to the shop. If you must ride it go slowly!
